Room 8's Cross Country Goals

Room 8 walked to Grey Lynn Park on Friday and walked the cross country track - then they ran it. After walking back to school, they sat down and talked about their goals and how they had to be positive and achievable.

This is their 1st iMovie.

Enjoy.

  2. Wow. The Room 8 Kauri Heroes are MY heroes!!! I remember, a very very very long time ago, when I was in school and we ran cross country. I never felt like I could do it because I was not a very good runner. And I used to feel badly about myself because I wasn't as good as everyone else. When I watched you video, I realize that part of why I never did well at cross-country running was because I never set goals. Because of that, I used to shy away from running and athletics altogether, and that made me very unhealthy. Last year, I set a goal to get healthy and lose weight. And I have been meeting my goals all along! Part of why I have been achieving the goals is because I set realistic goals -- goals that I know I can achieve. Things like 'doing my best', 'trying hard', and 'not giving up' are all very very powerful goals! And being realistic about what I can achieve, instead of comparing myself to what other people can achieve, is what makes the goals realistic! So my goal now, is to run a half-marathon in October 2010. A half-marathon is a very long run, that measures just over 20 kilometers. And I have been training hard for it so far. Twelve months ago, I used to find it difficult to walk for long distances, and now I can run for an hour with only a few breaks! So, Room 8, never let anyone tell you that your goals are not going to happen. As long as your goal matters to you, and is realistic, it is definitely possible, and you're bound to achieve it! And if you don't get it the first time, try again and don't give up. That's what makes goals work! So, keep up all the hard work and enjoy running! I can't wait to hear when you achieve your goals!
